So, it’s been a while. 2 years. And for 2 years I’ve been trying to change the name of the Novustory socials but it’s proved impossible. Obviously we’re gutted as we’ve amassed nearly 20,000 followers between instagram and Facebook and it would have been great to be able to transfer that over after making so many mint connections with people on here over the years. Even now I still get people saying ‘omg you changed the name I had no idea I thought you’d split up!!!!’. This just shows how little our new posts are shown to people who supported us previously. If you’re not in a position to pump a load of money into ads etc, you get swamped. The people that wanna see your band, can’t (unless you PAY)

We changed to UGLY CLUB cause we wanted a fresh start, we started the band when we were basically kids and we’d worn so many different faces, tried so many styles, colour schemes, marketing tactics…we finally found what made us tick and we realised that our music resonated with other people who’ve always felt like a bit of a misfit. So we decided to start again. And subsequently with a new name and clear identity we were selected for opportunities we’d been pushing for for years as Novustory but never quite managed, we have played at Ynot Festival, Tramlines festival, Truck Festival, last year I got up and sung at Download festival, we’ve been added to spotify editorial playlists, been added to the pre-show playlist for bring me the horizon’s stadium tour.. we’ve just now been announced for Isle of Wight Festival. We’ve played shows with our fave bands like Hot Milk, Marisa & The Moths, we’ve released vinyl.. the list goes on. For us, the band members, the change couldn’t have been more positive.

I know some people were hurt when we changed the name, they’d supported us for years and it felt like we were throwing all that support away. They didn’t understand why the announcement posts were just me (hi, imo here!) and not a full band - this was because despite still being a band, we realised that for ugly club to be a success we needed to be posting more and more and more, but do you know how hard it is to get a band made up of self employed musicians who have to work for a living together multiple times a week to be able to consistently have CONTENT ready to post? It was me that was gonna be posting everything, writing all the posts, interacting with people, so as a band we decided to put me at the forefront of the announcement.
It was all part of the journey to help us grow. And UGLY CLUB was the next step.

We wanted to keep the community we’d built, but I’ve tried to change the names on our fb/Instagram accounts and it won’t let me. I’m gutted, but i’ll give it a few days, maybe reconnect with some of you that didn’t even know we were under a new name (it’s UGLY CLUB now, we have like 10 new songs for you to sink your teeth into hehehe) then I’m gonna just delete the accounts lmao. Sending you all love, and thank you so much to everyone who came over to ugly club. To the people that didn’t… help us beat the pesky algorithm, come and listen to the new music we’ve created, it’s not too late to join our UGLY CLUB
