People with Jewish ancestry are more likely to carry BRCA gene mutations, which significantly increase the risk of breast cancer.
To address this, the NHS launched the Jewish BRCA Testing Programme as a trial, offering genetic testing to help identify people at higher risk earlier.
Following its success, the programme has now been made permanent, a major step forward for cancer prevention.
Early testing means more people can understand their risk and take action sooner.
At Prevent Breast Cancer, we’re proud to support research that helps people understand and act on their genetic risk. We are currently funding a study led by Professor Michelle Harvie at The University of Manchester, exploring how women identified as BRCA carriers interpret their risk and make decisions about prevention.
