For over a decade, seaweed has been at the heart of Notpla.
It’s the material that inspired our founders to start the material that continues to inspire our work today.
With more than 12,000 identified species, seaweed is far more diverse than most people realise. Different species have different properties, which is why seaweed is already used across food, healthcare, agriculture and material innovation.
At Notpla, we’re interested in what those properties can teach us about materials and how products can be designed to work more closely with nature.
Today, we’re celebrating seaweed and the scientists, farmers, coastal communities and innovators helping us better understand its potential.

The Science of Coffee at the

Last Thursday, we joined forces with , and the Science Museum Group in London for an evening exploring the future of a sustainable, bean-to-cup coffee movement through the lense of farming, flavour, sustainability and material innovation.

From Brazilian coffee farmers and ambassadors to experts across trade, packaging and materials, the conversation brought together the people rethinking one of the world’s most consumed products, from bean to cup.
Notpla CEO Pierre-Yves closed the evening by sharing the journey behind our Horizon Europe ‘No plasti-cups’ project: developing a new generation of naturally coated, plastic-free coffee cups designed to perform without leaving a lasting footprint.
More conversations like this are needed, bringing together science, industry and innovation to challenge the status quo and accelerate better solutions.

London Marathon, you’ve made history once again.
Yesterday’s race will go down in the record books.
A huge congratulations to every runner who took on the challenge and to Sebastian Sawe for an extraordinary sub-two-hour finish (01:59:30).
Moments like this remind us what human endurance can achieve.
Back in 2019, we were proud to be part of that journey, offering Ooho as an alternative to plastic bottles along the course. A small shift with a big impact.
Today, we’re continuing that mission with our ooho technology optimised for rethinking energy gels, the next generation of sports nutrition, without the plastic waste.
