Stephen writes: 'I've loved the music of Chaminade since I was a young boy. The wonderful elegance of her piano writing, the sophistication of her harmonic language, the memorable melodies—she has always been part of my musical life. This little piece has her deft fingerprints all over it, ultra-French suavity and sophistication in every bar.'

Join three of the most talented young musicians around as they revel in the opulence of fin de siècle Romanticism. Schoenberg's 'Verklärte Nacht' is most familiar in its arrangement for string orchestra; here, the texture of piano trio serves only to intensify the raw emotion of Richard Dehmel's tale of trust broken and won. It is performed alongside Tchaikovsky's heartfelt elegy to Nikolai Rubinstein.
The closing rondo of Bach's Concerto No 3 in D major, BWV1054 is a dance in 3/8 time full of vitality. The four episodes, each gaining in virtuosity, give the soloist a chance to shine.

The name Francisco Garro (c1556-1623) takes us back to one of the most outstanding and intriguing figures in the history and historiography of music in Portugal. His buried treasures are the latest subject of Cupertinos's multi-year exploration of Portuguese Renaissance polyphony.
Bach's Concerto No 3 in D major, BWV1054 in D major demonstrates keyboard virtuosity in a light different from that of the D minor's dark rumblings, with leaps all over the keyboard attesting to the Protean quality of the harpsichord to sing and dance in equal measure. The closing rondo is a dance in 3/8 time which can't fail to lighten our spirits.
