Scientists diving off Guam have uncovered strange, never-seen-before deep-sea creatures during a series of deep ocean explorations. Researchers identified around 100 species new to the region and possibly 20 species entirely unknown to science.
But amid the wonder, human trash and plastic waste were found even in these remote depths, showing pollution reaches everywhere.
Temperature data also suggest that deep waters are warming too, pointing to climate change affecting even the ocean’s twilight zone.

Scientists have captured rare evidence of orcas (killer whales) and dolphins hunting together for salmon off the coast of British Columbia.
Footage shows the dolphins acting as “scouts” using echolocation, while orcas follow to locate and catch big Chinook salmon.
Once the orcas catch the fish and break them apart, dolphins often feed on the scraps suggesting possible cooperation or mutual benefit.
This surprising teamwork challenges what scientists thought about these powerful marine mammals’ hunting behavior.
