“Any day can be a New Year to make a change” - heard this before? I feel the truth in this at an individual level. Yet I feel there is something to the truth in moving from 23:59 31st December to the 00:00 1st January from the collective point of view (in those of us using the modern Gregorian calendar). I feel whenever a large number of people agree to change their behaviour at a certain time, there is a collective energy generated with which we can swim in or surf on for whatever we choose to focus upon. For some, perhaps more commercially aligned, there is a huge push 'to be ready' and ‘start the new year strong’. For others, the collective vibe of New Year is infectious to initiate change and if this truly helps us make changes which have a positive impact on our wellbeing and life, great stuff.
Yet what if the weight of the collective's vibe to be positive, merry and change feels heavy? To "do something for New Year" is out of reach? Or we are not where we want to be at 00:00? I feel here is where we need to hold on, notice the feelings that visit us (I call them Teachers), feel the feelings that may arise, but use the wave of the collective's energy to help us let these feelings go. These Teachers may come back to visit us if they bring lessons for us in the days and weeks to come, but this weekend, let us be gentle with ourselves. Don't push away Teachers like Disappointment or Sadness, trust they will not drown us if we give them a seat at our table - we are stronger than we think - even if this phrase feels clichéd - for at our seeming weakest, we are stronger than we think because we are here right now.
New Year? Any day can be a 'New Year' to make a change, for even in stillness or tiredness, numbness or mental and/or physical exhaustion, we are a force of constant change within every cell, every atom of our being embodied is in constant motion and change. We don't need the collective 'vibe' or energy to make a change, we are energetic change embodied by being alive right now and we can call on this when we are ready, for we are so much stronger than we think.

“When we see things as they are, rather than how we want them to be, it can feel like a loss. What we thought was one colour, is not its true colour, like thinking the tarnish of silver sulfide on silver is how it’s supposed to look. In committing to see our truth by gazing beyond the loss - your curiosity is like a silver polish duster - a bit of effort, ‘elbow grease’ and see what happens? The silver is transformed to gleaming again. The tarnish is just a layer we created. We are the ones that dim our light by allowing our mind/ego to try and make things easier, less painful, seemingly cushioning us by creating false realities. Yet these ‘realities’ are just stories which act as padded prisons: we may think we are comfortable, safe, but we are not free.✨ How do we see truth of a situation from the outset? For me, this has been a process of embodiment - the journey from head to heart - choosing to walk in the shoes of truth even when it is uncomfortable, messy...exploring the muddy depths of wounding to then scramble up patterns of self-doubt mixed with giving away my power and hiking in cloud-covered, steep peaks of not-good-enoughs. Yet, all of it is worth the realisation from summiting this seeming mountain and feeling the welcome warmth of the sun on my face is actually my own light from within. ✨Our light is there all the time, it is just waiting for us to remember and embody it, so we can light our own way.”

When I meet new people who have not heard about the therapeutic use sound, it still makes me smile when I go onto explain my instrument of choice for my work is crystal singing bowls played with mallets. I am writing this while I eat delicious soup, and no, not in one of my Alchemy crystal singing bowls 😉
Bowls, whether used for soup, sound or cereal are containers, they hold the contents, keeping it safe and whole until we move it by spoon, mouth…or mallet. Of course, sound is not ‘contained’ by a singing bowl - it is the movement of the mallet around the bowl, which in short, generates the sound 🎶
Yet I feel the reason why I smile so much when I explain the mechanics of my work with singing bowls, is that bowls are so very familiar to us as humans as containers of nourishment...I love the parallel that my bowls hold my intention and that of my clients'. I can work with the sound my bowls create to nourish myself and my clients, bringing us back into wholeness…but no sink is full of washing up when I done with my crystal singing bowls - yay! 😆
