They filled his temporary studio at 521 W. 23rd St. in West Chelsea, the building where I lived and worked for many years. Our first meeting did not go well. I was new to the mysteries of the contemporary art world and unwittingly insulted Julian by asking him how far the paintings were along. He said “they are finished “… And so were we! Lol. So much for a novice and a master. Over the years, my respect for his practice has only increased as he has proven to be far more than just a painter. A true artist.
