Revealed: Six east London businesses named for not paying minimum wage 09/06/2025

HMRC has published the names of companies that have been found to be paying staff less than the minimum wage, which is illegal. Among them are a small number of east London businesses, showing that the vast majority of employers are meeting their minimum requirements.

The London Living Wage is higher than the Minimum Wage (£13.85 vs £12.21 per hour) and recognises the higher cost of living in London. Ideally it should be paid by all employers, as part of a series of measures to treat staff well. It is consistently proved that happy employees generate more profit for their employers. Pay is not the only factor, of course, but at the minimum end of the pay scale, it makes a significant contribution to employee satisfaction.
