Astilba (Astilbe) belongs to the genus of perennial herbaceous plants of the saxifrage family. According to various sources, this genus includes 18–40 species. The name given to the plant by Lord Hamilton is a Scottish botanist, "a" meaning "without", and "stilbe" meaning "brilliance". He meant that the plant has non-shiny, matte leaf plates. The homeland of such a plant is North America, East Asia and the Japanese islands. Astilba prefers to grow along the banks of streams, in deciduous forests, and also in those places where high humidity is observed in summer.
