Why make something that already exists?

Designing this cup shape was existing yet challenging- constant research and sketching of something functional and not seen before. But eventually you have to stop, and I’ve settled on a Handle design.

This particular silhouette was interesting because I saw an opportunity to be a “real” designer and adopt the shape through various sizes.

Making it was a next challenge. I’ve started with a solid cast mould which was unsuccessful. Then revised certain shape elements and made hybrid mould- handle part casts solid while the main volume casts hollow. All in the same mould.

Production involves making a special setting tile that brings two volumes together during final firing when the clay shrinks the most. A final step and a necessary trickery to prevent the cup shape from extreme warping.

I’ve selected 4 key colours for these cups: chalk, sand, umber and bark. Natural shades that can match many spaces.

And just a note on that: don’t see the colour you like? Send me a message and we can have a chat about what’s available and how I can help you.

Objects don’t usually respond to you.

A bowl that moves with you.
The Swivel Bowl explores how a simple vessel can become interactive through geometry.

This one does.
