Just thrilled to be able to get away and attend Lee FitzGerald symposium for addiction and mental health professionals in 🎉 catching up with friends, colleagues and associates old and new from all over the globe was absolutely heart warming.

Once again I was reminded of just how serious, challenging and taxing our work can be and more so, the importance of authentic connection, caring and celebrating each other is. After all, it’s the laughter we are after and Lees event never fails to deliver 💕

Very much enjoyed updating on our work and progress in the Middle East along with our London based services both residential and community based.

You likely won’t be surprised to learn that alcohol is the most commonly used recreational drug in the UK. While many can safely enjoy a pint or two watching football or a glass of wine with dinner, for others, alcohol is a major issue.

Alcohol addiction can affect anyone. It is a disease that does not discriminate and arises from complex combinations of genetic, environmental, social, and psychological factors. In fact, researchers have identified almost 600 gene variants that can cause a person to be at risk of developing an alcohol addiction. If someone with one of these gene variants experiences common psychological factors like a high-stress job, a mental health condition, or a traumatic experience, an alcohol dependency can quite quickly form.

Alcohol addiction affects more than half a million people in the UK. If you are one of these people and feel you need to make a change, reach out. We can provide the support you need to help you regain control, and we’ll be by your side every step of the way.

A study conducted with almost a thousand young adults looked at the relationship between job stressors and substance use, and the results showed that different work stressors like job boredom and not having autonomy over their own tasks were related to more depression and more problematic drinking in this specific group.

Even though substance use might be a common coping mechanism, it can lead to problems like social isolation, job loss, and potentially addiction, which comes with a host of challenges and stigma. Additionally, using substances to relieve work stress also means there is less time to pursue other activities that might promote well-being, like exercise or sleep.

If you think your substance use has gone from a fun distraction to more of a concerning issue, it’s never too early or too late to seek help. The Revoke Programme creates a space where recovery fits into daily life so you can keep working while finding your way back to full health.

Prolonged stress is a continuous state of mental pressure that extends over time and often goes unnoticed as we become accustomed to its effects. It doesn’t come from a single incident but rather from ongoing challenges that exceed our resources and coping mechanisms. Understanding the warning signs and effects of prolonged stress is essential as it plays a significant role in our overall mental and physical health. When stress is not managed effectively, it can lead to serious health problems, including mental health disorders like anxiety and depression, cardiovascular diseases, and a weakened immune system.

Prolonged stress can subtly integrate into daily life, manifesting through various physical, emotional, and behavioural symptoms that we dismiss as part of life's regular ups and downs. However, when these signs are persistent, they can indicate that stress has become chronic and is significantly impacting well-being. Recognising these signs early and understanding the underlying mechanisms are key to preventing the escalation of burnout and other severe health issues.

Embracing neurodiversity offers significant advantages in the workplace. People who are neurodiverse often bring unique problem-solving abilities, creativity, and attention to detail to their jobs, which can bring a totally different and fresh perspective to daily tasks and new projects.

However, neurodiverse people may also face higher risks of stress and burnout, as most environments are not designed with neurodiversity in mind, so it’s important to ensure additional support is available.

Incorporating inclusive practices and providing tailored support not only helps neurodiverse employees thrive, but also enhances overall team dynamics, innovation, and success.

At The Revoke Programme, we’re proud to champion for a workplace culture that celebrates and supports neurodiversity, making sure everyone has the opportunity to contribute their best.
