The Conversion: Dr. Atsushi Kamal Okuda is a well-known Japanese political scienctist and academic who embraced Islam in Aleppo, Syria. He adopted the middle name "Kamal" after his conversion.

The Verse: In multiple interviews and lectures, he shared that his spiritual turning point came when he encountered Surah Al-Hijr (15:26). The verse states: "And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud". He noted that reading about the humble origins of mankind deeply moved him and sparked his extensive study of Islamic legislation.
