Our event Family Tech Day and 123Robot Competition was a fantastic success today, with over 200 adults and children attending and taking part in the activities.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended, especially our volunteers, mentors, and parent helpers whose hard work and dedication made the day possible.

It was wonderful to see so many young people and families enjoying robotics, AI, technology, and engineering together.

Congratulations to Kanav Jain of First Step Robotics on being named UK Young Engineer of the Year 2026!

Kanav's innovative AeroAid project demonstrates how young people can use engineering to solve real-world challenges. We are proud to have supported his journey through mentoring, access to equipment, and encouragement along the way.

This achievement is a testament to Kanav's hard work, creativity, and dedication. Well done, Kanav!

Due to high demand, we’ve opened a second Family Exploration session from 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM for those who missed the earlier booking.

Tickets for this year’s 123Robot Competition & Family Tech Open Day session starting at 1:30 PM on 13th June have now officially sold out.

Following the fantastic response and feedback from last year, we’ve made this year’s event even bigger and better including moving to a larger venue at Xcite Broxburn to accommodate more activities.

If you’re expecting polished commercial technology displays, you may be surprised most of what you’ll see has been custom-made or creatively improvised, with children showcasing their creativity, engineering, coding, and problem-solving skills through projects they have helped design and build themselves.

Things for children to get involved in include:

• Impact Drive Remote Controlled Car Challenge
• Live Robot Dog Demonstrations

Our students have competed in major STEM events including:

• VEX IQ Challenge
• The Big Bang Competition
• European Space Agency CanSat Competition
• and more

We’ve helped children build confidence and develop vital future skills, while offering subsidised and free places thanks to the support of paying families and dedicated volunteers.

Our Saturday workshops in Broxburn run five sessions every Saturday, supporting 60 children.

For the first time, we’re hosting the 123Robot™ Competition to expand access to hands-on robotics.

Congratulations to Kanav, a team member of First Step Robotics, on this fantastic achievement!

His project, “AeroAid: Autonomous VTOL Quadplane,” being selected as a finalist in the The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Competition 2026 is truly inspiring—especially among over 800 young innovators across the UK.

Wishing him the very best as he showcases his work at The Big Bang Fair at the National Exhibition Centre from 9–11 June.
