Should under-16s be banned from social media?📱
The UK Government has announced plans to introduce a social media ban for under-16s, expected to come into effect from early 2027.
At our latest Young Leaders session, we discussed the proposal and explored the potential benefits, concerns and wider questions it raises.
There wasn’t one “right” answer. Instead, our Young Leaders shared a range of perspectives based on their own experiences.

💬 What do you think? Should under-16s be banned from social media?
This was supposed to be a quick video, but I don’t know how to stop myself from talking...
Instead, here’s a little insight into my role at Equal Vision and some of the work we’re doing with young people across Liverpool.

The people most affected by decisions should have a say in making them.
Young people deserve a voice 🗣️
Every young person deserves opportunities. Not every young person gets them.
That’s one of the reasons we’re taking on a 13.4-mile sponsored walk this July. 💙
A donation is amazing, but even a share helps us reach more people.

📢 Research participants wanted.
We're looking for professionals who work with young people in Liverpool to take part in interviews exploring how secondary education impacts the mental health and wellbeing of young people aged 11–18, including those attending Sixth Form.
Whether you’re a teacher, teaching assistant, pastoral lead, youth worker, SEN/SEMH practitioner, wellbeing lead or another professional who regularly sees the impact education can have on young people’s wellbeing, we’d love to hear from you.
Interviews can take place in person or via Microsoft Teams, and there is also an optional opportunity to be involved in our documentary project.

Day 7/7 🧠
Mental Health Awareness Week may be ending, but the conversations shouldn’t stop here.
Over the past week we’ve shared what young people told us they need: to feel heard, safe, supported and understood. We’ve spoken about stigma, pressure, school, community and the importance of real support.
Real change starts with listening to young people and taking action on what they’re telling us.
Thank you to everyone who engaged with this series, shared posts and helped keep these conversations going 💬

Day 6/7 🧠
Mental health conversations shouldn’t feel awkward, embarrassing or impossible to start. Sometimes just checking in, listening or making space for someone to talk can make more of a difference than we realise.
This Mental Health Awareness Week, we wanted to remind people that conversations matter, listening matters and young people matter ❤️

Day 5/7 🧠
We asked our Young Leaders Group about their experiences of mental health, school, support and the environments around them.
The responses showed just how much pressure young people are carrying, from school expectations and future worries to feeling unheard and unsupported.
Young people told us that support doesn’t always feel accessible, safe or easy to reach. They spoke about wanting spaces where they feel listened to, understood and able to ask for help without judgement.
Mental health can be shaped by schools, communities, safety, stigma and the systems around us.
Real change starts with listening to young people. ❤️🩹

Day 4/7 🧠
Supporting others doesn’t always mean having the perfect words or knowing exactly what to do. ❤️🩹
Sometimes support looks like listening, checking in consistently, sitting with someone after a hard day or simply reminding them that they matter.
People don’t always need solutions, sometimes they just need space to talk, someone who cares and reassurance that they don’t have to go through things alone.
This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re reminding people that support can start small, and still make a big difference.
