First part of the classic racing on the Isle of Man puzzle arrived today.

Generator goes quiet.
Tyre warmers come off.
I hear the clunk as the Paddock stands are removed and bike drops onto her tyres.
It’s time.
I turn around after the final nervous call of nature.
Helmet strap checked.
Final fist bumps, pit crew reduces to 2
Bike is pushed down to start line, final look at team, blip of the throttle, and I walk the bike down to start line.
One bike sets off
Another
Another
It will soon be my turn.
I check the matrix board, damp patches at Glen Helen.
I look at the crowd on the left, I count at least 7 cameras.
It’s now my turn.
Visor snaps shut.
Engage first gear
World goes quiet, the crowd goes quiet, no tannoy noise, no engine noise, no words, no birds, just an exhale and a big breath in.
Flag drops, simultaneous tap on the shoulder.
Drop clutch, pin the throttle wide open, relax, breathe out, breathe in.
Up one gear, up another gear, up to fourth, get my elbow in hedge on the right, cross in between the arrow at junction, front goes light, don’t move the bars or I’m off.
Relax Bray hill is coming, breathe and hold your breath aim for the tree…..

I’m on my own….. breathe

I believe every rider that challenges the mountain course on the Isle of Man has this experience it is an incredible feel that I’m unable to give its dues just through words, but hopefully you guys get a taste of it.

This is racing, this is the best motorsport in the world.
