New Evidence Reinforces the Power of Exercise in Cancer Recovery
A comprehensive new review published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine confirms what many in our field have long observed: exercise is a powerful tool in mitigating the side effects of cancer treatment.
The study analysed 485 outcomes from 80 moderate- to high-quality trials and found that physical activity—including aerobic and resistance exercise, high-intensity interval training, tai chi, and yoga—can significantly reduce heart and nerve damage, brain fog, breathlessness, and more. It also improved body composition, inflammatory markers, psychological wellbeing, sleep quality, and overall quality of life.

At PINC & STEEL, our network of certified oncology physiotherapists are experts in bridging the gap between cancer treatment and safe, effective rehabilitation. We know that people often feel overwhelmed and unsure how to start moving again.
Symptom burden and impairments caused by treatment—like fatigue, pain, weakness or neuropathy—can be major barriers. PINC & STEEL physios work alongside patients to address these barriers, tailoring support to each individual’s needs and stage of recovery.
The PINC & STEEL Foundation funds one-on-one and group support to help people safely return to exercise, rebuild their strength and confidence, and reconnect with the activities they love.

This study is recruiting women with breast cancer who have been prescribed hormone therapy (e.g. tamoxifen, anastrozole, letrozole, exemestane) in the past 24 months, and is aiming to determine the best type of support to help women take their hormone therapy. Women who take part may receive up to four different types of support. The study is hosted by the University of Leeds and funded by the National Institute of Health Research.
