Happy Friday everyone! We thought you'd like to see this beautiful review from Jenny Beard who fostered Gem and her nine kittens... we have to say that Jenny has been absolutely amazing!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️An Absolute Honour (and Complete Kitten Chaos!)

When Angie from Meowcat Rescue asked me to foster GEM, a heavily pregnant cat who had been dumped at a vet surgery, I thought I knew what I was signing up for.

I did not.

For weeks, Angie kept winding me up, telling me Gem was going to have five kittens… then six… then seven. I laughed and told her she was being ridiculous.

Turns out Angie wasn’t joking.

Gem gave birth to NINE beautiful kittens.
NINE!

I was lucky enough to be there while she delivered every one of them – a gorgeous mix of little ginger and black bundles of mischief. My daughter Wren and I spent countless hours helping care for them, including hand-feeding some of the smaller babies, and I don’t think either of us got over the shock of just how many kittens one cat could produce.

Through it all, Gem was the most incredible mum. Patient, gentle, loving and endlessly devoted. To this day, I have absolutely no idea how she managed to produce enough milk to keep nine hungry mouths fed. She was always ready with a little head bump, a gentle purr and a request for affection. Unless, of course, breakfast service was running late. In that case, she’d be at the lounge door at 7am sharp, banging and loudly reminding me that my staff performance was slipping and that management expected better.

As the kittens grew, life became beautifully chaotic. Walking into the lounge felt less like entering a room and more like stepping into a travelling circus. Kittens appeared in every cupboard, every crevice and every place you thought was impossible to reach. There were water bowls everywhere, food bowls everywhere, toys everywhere, and an endless stream of tiny furry bodies launching themselves around the room at high speed.

Some days it was hard work.

Every single minute was worth it.

Watching those babies grow into healthy, confident, happy cats was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. And while saying goodbye was emotional, it filled my heart with pride to see every one of them go to such wonderful homes.
Meeting the families who came to adopt them in pairs was genuinely heartwarming. Every single person was kind, caring and excited to give these little cats the love, security and future they deserved.

From the bottom of my heart, fostering for Meowcat Rescue has been an absolute privilege.

I’m incredibly grateful to Angie and the whole team for trusting Wren and I with Gem and her babies. Their support throughout was amazing – always available, always reassuring, always ready with advice, encouragement and a kind word whenever it was needed.

And, of course, a special thank you to Angie, who not only guided us through nine kittens’ worth of chaos but also helped celebrate the end of an adventure with a well-earned glass of wine.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s messy, exhausting, emotional, hilarious and sometimes completely bonkers. But helping vulnerable animals get the start of life they deserve is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.

Thank you, Meowcat Rescue. It was an honour ❤️

Jenny and Wren xx

Introducing our newest little Meowcat, MADELINE🩷
**********************************************************************
9-week-old MADELINE was signed over to us a few days ago. Her owner had acquired her from an ‘advert’ and it soon became clear that Madeline was unwell. She was tiny and underweight and very sore from constant diarrhoea and was unvaccinated and not microchipped. Her owner sought veterinary advice and Madeline was found to have a re**al prolapse brought on by internal parasites and constant diarrhoea putting so much pressure on her system. Her owner was told that she would probably need an operation to correct the prolapse but that it would be expensive. Her owner, who had other animals, knew that expensive treatment was not an option so decided to hand her over to a rescue so she could get the help and the treatment she needed.

We took tiny MADELINE to see our vets at Fyfield Village Vets. It was confirmed that she does have a re**al prolapse but it’s not the worst the vet has seen and we are hopeful that she won’t need to have the correction surgery. She will be checked again on Monday to see if there is any improvement. Worming treatment and special veterinary kitten digestive food will hopefully make a difference and she will need to keep her collar until then. We have everything crossed that she won’t need to go through surgery at such a young age. We will keep you posted on her progress.

This is another very sad example of kittens being rehomed without the correct care from birth. Highly unsuitable food, no worming treatment and sold far too young to be away from mum, with no vaccinations to give them any protection in the homes they are going to.

It’s also very sad that tiny Madeline was rehomed as a single kitten at such a young age. Kittens need to be with their mum and siblings until the age of 12 weeks, learning from them and developing confidence. During that time they should be wormed, fully vaccinated and microchipped before rehoming. And it is ALWAYS kinder to rehome kittens in pairs. They comfort each other, play together and continue to learn from each other. Far too many young kittens under the age of 12 weeks are rehomed, having never seen a vet, leading to problems the new owner is unable to deal with. And many of these kittens go on to be the unneutered strays who frequent gardens desperate for food and contribute to the huge stray cat and kitten problem bringing rescues to their knees.

ADOPT DON’T SHOP! At Meowcat Rescue we always ensure that before they are rehomed, all kittens are fully wormed and treated for fleas, have first and second vaccinations, are microchipped, fed suitable nutritious kitten food and looked after by mum until they are 12 weeks old. Our kittens are always rehomed in pairs (unless the kitten has come to us as a single kitten and cannot be bonded with another kitten the same age) and adoption includes a Neuter Voucher which can be used within 3 months of adoption at one of our vets, paid for by us. This ensures that all kittens leaving our rescue will be neutered within 3 months of leaving us. And of course mum is given the exact same treatment and doesn’t leave us until she is spayed and fully recovered.

All this treatment is expensive and the adoption fee barely covers it. We break our backs fundraising to be able to do this, BUT we can be satisfied in the knowledge that ALL kittens who leave us, do so with a 100% healthy start in life.

We would like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to our supporter Faye who donated £178.88 to us today from sold items belonging to her late mum-in-law Madeline, who passed away last year. Madeline met Peter (our colleague who passed away 4 years ago) many years ago when he DJ'd at both her son's weddings and she loved cats and singing, so Faye thinks she would approve of the donation!
We have made a promise that the next female rescue cat that comes through our doors will be named Madeline in her memory.❤️🐈🐈‍⬛❤️

😻🩷 Happy sunny Friday everyone! HAPPY NEWS!!! 😻🩷
*************************************************************
GEM and her 9 beautiful babies (who are now 12 weeks old) were all taken to Fyfield Village Vets yesterday for their second vaccinations and microchips. GEM stayed at the surgery to be spayed and all went well for her. After three litters at just 18 months old, there will be no more babies for her! 😻🩷

We are also absolutely thrilled to let you know that GEM and her smallest kitten TINA have now been RESERVED to go to a really lovely home together in 10 days time once Gem has completely recovered from her op. We are so happy that this beautiful girl, who has been through such a lot in 18 months, has found her happy ending. She deserves so much more in life and we know she is going to be thoroughly spoilt in her new home with her daughter to keep her company! ❤️🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛❤️

Gem's other 8 kittens have all been reserved in pairs and will go to their fabulous forever homes over the next week!

Little 6-month-old NORA has been doing so well with her babies, who are now two weeks old! She is extremely young to have kittens - being just a kitten herself - and the first two weeks of quiet bonding have been crucial to the well-being of her babies. We have been monitoring her, and she has proven to be a great little mum, very attentive to her four beautiful babies who are thriving and are gaining so much weight that we wonder if they are sneaking out of the kitten pen and eating mum’s food overnight! 😻❤️
The little family are with our fosterer Janet who has given Nora the new name of BLOSSOM and her babies have also been given flowery names: VIOLET, DAISY, HOLLY and POPPY! 😺🩷
We will update more on this cute little family in due course.
No applications for adoption yet please.

Still looking for a forever home - TIM 💙🏠
*********************************
5-year-old tabby TIM has been with us since December last year! 🙀❤️ He had been badly neglected and was suffering from a whole-body skin infection brought on by flea infestation. He was extremely thin and malnourished and was also found, on X-ray, to have an old back injury, which our vets say was most likely from a road accident.
Despite all this, TIM has surprised us all with his infectious zest for life and friendliness to anyone and everyone around him! He has slowly recovered and is now at his ideal weight and has lovely skin and fur. His old injury has left him a bit wonky and his back legs make him look like he has just got off his horse! But this does not bother TIM and he demonstrates this daily with zoomies, climbing up his scratch tower and playing hide and seek with fosterer Janet! His love of life is so lovely to see!
He loves his food and has a good appetite. He also loves to cuddle on a lap and sleeps soundly all night at the end of fosterer Janet's bed! 🤗❤️
TIM is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. His ideal home would have a very safe protected garden with no dogs.
A home check and adoption fee will apply.
