With the ridiculously high temperatures encountered this week we closed our farm to volunteers (and shortened/changed the growers hours,) for everyone’s safety, however a few snuck in!

Before the heatwave really kicked in, John was helping out the kohlrabi - ridding it of weeds, especially the dreaded bindweed!
Gillie (along with Nicky, who is not in the photo,) helped plant out 2 x varieties of white sprouting broccoli and their companion plant, calendula. Calendula not only looks great but also deters cabbage white butterflies (of which we have seen so many,) attracts aphids (hopefully away from the brassicas,) and attracts beneficial insects like hoverflies and parasitic wasps.

Tony, Nicky and Sue did the super early shift on Thursday, starting at 6am, to help with harvesting and packing all the shares before it got too hot!

Teti enjoyed some cooler, calmer time on the farm on a few of the evenings - planting out climbing beans.
