Where the light won't leave
A very old part of my hometown of Axminster, which holds a lot of memories for many in Axminster, formerly located near an old police cell, which no longer exists, this location always has an eerie element when the lights are on at night.

Eleanor
Inspired by the works of Tamra de Lempicka, I tried to echo her stylised approach, the glamour and geometric background, reminiscent of the 1930s, promoting the femininity, yet strength of the subject. Working with a limited pastel palette, I spent time mastering blending techniques, and this helped bring a cohesiveness to the final picture.
Oil Pastel on paper 41.5 x 30 cm

Jacob's Ladder, Sidmouth, UK.
I decided to paint Jacob's ladder, inspired by the wonderful photography of Simon Horn, as the steps are broken and may never be replaced. I wanted to record this much-loved place. Oils on canvas, 19 x 12inches.

The Fury
A charcoal drawing taken from a photo of a friend's horse, dirty dancing in the dust of a hot summer. I gave it the dark and brooding treatment to enhance this almost mythological idea of untameable fury in a magnificent beast, letting loose like a storm - a Valkyrie steed!

My Secret Bluebell Wood
Acrylics and oils on 40 x 40 canvas
This was my childhood playground in Hertfordshire. In the 1960s, modern farming methods and newly built factories that belched out chemical waste almost destroyed it. I revisited my old home a few years ago to find the factories had gone, my bluebell wood had regenerated, and the bird song was loud one again. Nature is wonderful!
