Most people squeeze the lemon juice and throw the rest away when making lemon water in the morning โ€ฆ but the peel and pith contain some really valuable natural plant compounds too. ๐Ÿ‹

Thatโ€™s why grating a frozen whole lemon into your water can be so much more healthful. Instead of only using the juice, youโ€™re getting more from the whole fruit.

Here are some of the compounds found in the peel, pith and flesh:

Limonene โ€“ found mainly in the peel, this is one of lemonโ€™s beautifully aromatic plant compounds. It is often linked with supporting the bodyโ€™s natural cleansing processes and offers antioxidant support too.

Eriocitrin โ€“ a powerful antioxidant in lemon that helps protect the body from everyday oxidative stress.

Hesperidin โ€“ a citrus bioflavonoid that is often associated with supporting circulation and overall metabolic balance.

Pectin โ€“ a soluble fibre found in the pith which can help support the gut and helps make the whole fruit more satisfying.

Vitamin C โ€“ well known for supporting immune health and helping protect cells from oxidative stress.

So when you only squeeze the juice, you may be missing out on some of the goodness stored in the peel and pith too.

( I recommend to only freeze organic lemons ๐Ÿ‹ you really donโ€™t want to be grating wax etc that are sprayed onto non organic lemons. )

Freezing a lemon and grating a little into water is such an easy way to:
use more of the whole fruit,
add extra freshness and flavour,
bring in more natural plant compounds,
and turn plain water into something far more vibrant and even more beneficial.
