I didn’t expect much when I walked into the local hustings last week, but I didn’t expect to be publicly dismissed either. My local Scottish Liberal Democrats councillor, Cllr Lewis Younie, stated on record that my allegations were “false.”
Which is a lie.
Younie and I have never spoken before the hustings. He got involved with the Lib Dems after I had left. He wasn't involved in my complaints or the hearing of them in any way. He hasn't seen any of my evidence. I wasn't asking his opinion on my case. He is an elected representative who casually labelled a woman’s very serious complaints as “false allegations”, and this sends a very clear message.
Not to me...I don't listen to Lib Dems. But there was a young woman on the same pew as me who watched this unfold and may think twice about speaking up in the event that she needs to in the future.
This was never about party politics. It was always about accountability, standards in public office and how women are treated when they raise concerns, and the more Scottish Lib Dem elected representatives feel backed into a corner (even though all I'm asking for is some accountability) the more serious this gets.
I’ve written about what happened, what was said and why it matters.

If you live in Almond ward of Edinburgh or the Edinburgh and Lothians East constituency, this is definitely worth your time.

"False Allegations": How Cllr Lewis Younie shut down a question on accountability at hustings. At a local hustings on Thursday, I asked about abuse, accountability and what voters deserve to know. This was the response.
Hannah Rodger, Chief Reporter for the Scottish Mail on Sunday and Daily Mail told me in 2023 (when she was Chief Reporter on Sunday Mail) that she had an issue with reporting on attempted su***des in the Scottish Liberal Democrats at the hands of Christine Jardine MP because I’d spoken about it on social media. I’m not so naive as to think my incredible regular supporters amount to widespread knowledge of off line, so this felt very off at the time.
I decided to test the theory today and stood outside Alex Cole Hamilton MSP’s constituency office while he was in Parliament for the last day of this session. Do you think many people knew about me? Nah. Course not.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by today.
I don’t have any questions for Alex Cole Hamilton MSP any more, but if you’re intending to vote for him, you should be asking him plenty, including:
💥 why won’t you hold an independent investigation into Emma Walker’s complaints?
To which he is likely to reply: “there has been an independent investigation.” (There hasn’t).
💥 Emma Walker maintains there has not been an investigation and she has never received any request to give evidence or a final report of any said investigation. She has said publicly she would be happy for the Liberal Democrats to release the report. Will you this? If not why not?
💥 Why did you write to your Office Bearers to inform them that you were about to treat a woman in a way that wasn’t “entirely humane?”
💥 When Police Scotland placed a mark on Emma Walker’s home, to protect her and her six year old son from threats of sexual violence from a Lib Dem supporter based in Edinburgh, you called her and texted her. What were the outcomes of this discussion? How did you help Emma in that moment and how did you ensure it wouldn’t happen again for other women?
💥 In a text you described Christine Jardine MP as someone who destroys staffers lives and careers, someone who gives her staff a hard time and who goes “f**king intercontinental” when she doesn’t get her own way. You told the Times that this was because of election stress in 2019 but the texts date back to episodes in 2016. How can you explain this?
