Using a community development approach we provide services focusing on physical, social and emotional wellbeing and aim to build social capital and reduce inequalities within the city of Edinburgh. We are able to provide a wide range of services because we involve local people in all that we do – through volunteering, through consultation and by working together to meet the whole community’s needs. We deliver a range of free or low cost services to improve people’s physical, social and mental wellbeing and 200 – 250 people access HAR services every week.

80% people accessing HAR services have a long term health condition or disability. Since our establishment in 1989 our evaluation, including before and after scores, has demonstrated the effectiveness of our services in helping people to feel and live better.
