The Catherine Newman Youth Bursary was recently launched in memory of our friend and colleague, Catherine Newman. With a passion for involving the youth in global justice, Catherine played a vital role in the Fair Trade movement in Scotland. The bursary will support young people to attend future International Fair Trade Towns Conferences, helping to build the next generation of Fair Trade campaigners and global citizens. This year, three young people will attend the conference in Belgium through the bursary as part of a Scottish youth delegation. Last night, we had the incredible opportunity to host a Meet and Greet with Mercy Sibande, the country director of the Mamie Martin Fund. The Mamie Martin Fund supports secondary education of girls in North Malawi. The Mamie Martin Fund currently supports 163 girls across seven schools, including 19 girls at a school for deaf children in Embangweni. Through our Magic Beans Loyalty Program, customers receive 1p of credit for every £1 spent towards the Mamie Martin Fund. Through this initiative, customers can support these girls in Malawi by donating their loyalty points towards personal care necessities for these girls. With the help of the Magic Beans Loyalty Program, One World Shop was able to donate £300 towards the Mamie Martin Fund thanks to our customers.
