One week on from our conversation with Kim Murray and we’re still smiling! 

An afternoon filled with honesty, insight, and a lot of laughter. 🙌

Kim Murray told her story, and it’s a brilliant one. A wife yes, but also Mum of four, artist, interior designer, writer, and Creative Director at Cromlix.

But her involvement goes far deeper than purely creative, Kim is a business owner, wears many hats and of that said
“You don’t overcome the fear. You’re always scared if you run a business, the fear is there every day, and it’s a good thing.”

The new Cromlix is a triumph and hearing the story, behind it made it even more special.

Four years ago I did a brave thing and opened a shop on George St.

It was a scary decision, but remains one of the best. Opening at a time when people were craving connection more than ever, opening just after lockdown.

It wasn’t a small shop either, 7000 sq ft 😳, but we soon filled it with amazing women led brands, a cafe, we had dj’s and kids activities, book clubs, and a few parties 🪩

I learned a LOT, particularly how astronomical rates are in Edinburgh 😵‍💫 but my overriding memory is of joy, colour, and women coming together to learn and laugh, grow their business and confidence.

I said I’d never do it again, that I’d walked away from bricks and mortar for good, but I think it’s in my dna, so never say never.

Did you visit egg & co? What did you love about it? Should we bring it back?!

Laughter at an event about money and death, not what you’d expect perhaps?

But that’s exactly why Money Matters felt special ❤️

Yes, we talked about wills, pensions, Power of Attorney and protecting your future, but we also hugged, laughed and shared honestly.

And at one point I ended up discussing my dad’s ashes living in a protein shaker…so maybe a bit too much honesty 😳

Many of us are building businesses, homes and futures, yet there’s still so much we avoid or put to the bottom of the list when it comes to money and protecting ourselves.

So I’m really excited that the podcast we recorded at the event is now LIVE so you can listen too! 🥳

59% of women don’t have a will in place, do you?

From sweaty palms and a shaky airplane safety demo to standing on a stage in front of hundreds - it’s been some journey! ✈️

I’ve just been asked to host again and am absolutely cock-a-hoop! 🥳

But the journey to hosting large events with confidence has taken time.

10 years of walking into rooms, of trying new things, of getting up there time & again, with shaking hands and wobbly knees.

Never ever back then, dressed in my diamonds, did I think one day I’d stand on stage in front of hundreds of people and would love it.

But it’s now my happy place. The place I feel most alive - listening to women (and men!) - helping them share their stories ❤️

So this is just a reminder to anyone who needs it - the hard and scary things do get easier - there will be pain, but it will subside and growth will come, so keep going.
