- WEDNESDAY 8 JULY 2026
- 6PM-8PM
======
Please email: [email protected] and we’ll send you the joining instructions on the afternoon of the meeting next week .
Our Online/Zoom Support Group Meeting is next week on Wednesday 8th July 2026, starting sharp at 6 pm and running till 8 pm aimed at those of you around the country who can’t make it to our in-person city-based meetings.
Places at this Zoom meeting will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Acknowledgments and joining instructions will be sent on Wednesday afternoon for those of you who request to take part.
We look forward to having with us supporting solicitor Megan Hannah of BTO in Glasgow. We are currently seeking a second solicitor for this meeting for anticipated demand. Solicitors offer general legal information and clarification on points of Scottish Family Law.
This meeting will be hosted by Kevin Kane, Alastair Williamson and Megan Hutcheon from Shared Parenting Scotland.
This meeting gives you the ability to put your own legal questions to our supporting solicitor(s). Depending on the numbers who sign up to attend, you’ll get 10/15 minutes, maybe more, discussing your points with the solicitor around the table.
Things work roughly the same as our in-person face-to-face meetings, starting with an introduction, a Shared Parenting Scotland news update and then giving each person in turn a chance to talk to a solicitor.
If the quality of the online connection is poor, we will ask people to join in sound only to make best use of the available bandwidth. To minimise background noise, we’ll ask you to mute your microphone when not talking.
You can take part in the Zoom meeting on a computer, tablet or smartphone or by dialling in by phone to an Edinburgh (0131) number. More info on Zoom can be found here : https://zoom.us/
Our staff are working as normal, so if you need to talk to us about issues you are facing, please ring 0131 557 2440 from Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, or email : [email protected]

🚌 Scottish government minister, , confirmed yesterday, there is no law or government policy that requires local authorities to ration access to assistance with travel to school for children who live across two homes to “one address only”.
Answering a written question by SNP MSP, , whether the Scottish government will review the guidance provided to local authorities on home-to-school transport policies, to ensure that children who live across more than one residence are not disadvantaged compared with those living at a single address, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Culture and Gaelic, replied that the government updated its school transport guidance in December 2025.
💬 “The guidance makes clear there is no legislative barrier to prevent councils from taking account within school transport arrangements the needs of pupils who live in more than one household during the school week.”
Shared Parenting Scotland Chief Executive, Kevin Kane, says:
💬 “We pressed hard in the consultation last year that the previous guidelines were out of date, and out of touch with the lived reality of many children at our schools.
It isn’t right that a scheme designed to help otherwise eligible children to reach school fit and ready to learn can be withheld on an arbitrary basis that makes one of a child’s parents invisible to the system.
That isn’t good for a child’s view of his or her own family life. It isn’t fair and we doubt if it is UNCRC compliant. We will keep pressing the issue.”

We are very much looking forward to attending the Armed Forces Community Big Day Out tomorrow at Edinburgh Napier University.
Megan (one of our staff members) and Guy (one of our trustees) look forward to having a chat to people and sharing info on the work we do with the armed forces community.
We’re keen to connect with others in the community so we can continue to support and meaningfully signpost to relevant organisations.
Our support for the armed forced includes free access to our New Ways for Families training programme for separated parents, for both serving personnel and veterans.
Come say hi and have a chat to us about how we can support you!

🌎 An international addition to our casework! ⚽️
🏴Our view, of course, is that Scotland has a right to a relationship with both cities! 🇩🇪🤝🇺🇸
Scotland benefits from having a good relationship with both the city of Boston and the city of Cologne, just as children benefit when they have a good, loving relationship with both their parents.
🔎Article 9 of the UN Convention on the Rights of The Child, which the Scottish Parliament adopted in 2024, states that “children whose parents have separated have the right to stay in contact with both parents, unless this could cause them harm.”
To avoid prolonged, expensive, traumatising custody battles, we recommend New Ways For Families, our online course designed to help separated parents learn key behavioural skills to support themselves and their children through separation.
