BARN OWL CHICK DIGS ITSELF A HOLE THEN SLEEPS INSIDE AT ROBERT FULLER GALLERY IN THIXENDALE
Adorable footage of a barn owl chick digging a small hole into the floor of its nest and falling asleep inside at the home of a Thixendale artist has melted hearts around the world.
Within a day of its release on social media, more than 100,000 people had watched the video clip, with viewers comparing it to a toddler finally running out of energy at bedtime.
The footage was filmed by Thixendale wildlife artist and filmmaker Robert E Fuller using surveillance cameras hidden inside a barn owl nest close to the artist’s home in North Yorkshire.
Mr Fuller, who uses cameras hidden inside bird nests to create content about the individual lives of animals, has more than one million YouTube subscribers and 1.6 million Facebook followers.
The latest clip features the only surviving chick of a female barn owl, named Celeste by viewers.
“My nest cameras mean we get to see adorable moments like this and to learn about the behaviour of wildlife,” said Mr Fuller.
“For example, not many people will know that young owlets sleep lying down until they see it happening on the cameras.”
Originally one of four chicks, viewers became particularly invested in the life of the six-week-old barn owl after its father, named Orion, disappeared from the nest two weeks ago.
“I’m yet to find out what happened to Orion but these things unfortunately happen sometimes in nature,” said Mr Fuller whose attempts to revive one of the chicks sadly failed.
“Orion was also a first-time owl dad, and followers had been hoping for years that he would settle down and start a family.
"Now of course people feel extra invested in the life of his only owlet.”
Mr Fuller livestreams his nest cameras on YouTube, giving viewers a chance to watch events as they unfold.

OVERTURNED LORRY CAUSING TRAFFIC PROBLEMS AT WHITECROSS ROUNDABOUT NEAR LEVEN
Traffic is building in the Leven area after a lorry overturned near Whitecross Roundabout earlier this afternoon.
The largest build-up of traffic is currently between Leven and Routh, whilst there are also queues between Leven and Long Riston as a result of the incident.
Bus company East Yorkshire has said some of its services are currently unable to travel through the area and are diverting:
Service 24 towards Hornsea - Diverting via the A165 (Hornsea Road) and High Stile.
Unable to serve: Beverley Road, Leven.
Service 24 towards Hull and Service 25 towards Beverley - Diverting via High Stile, Hornsea Road and the A165
Unable to serve: South Street and Beverley Road, Leven.
Service 25 towards Hornsea - This service is currently operating its normal route and is not being diverted at this time
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience while this incident is ongoing," said a spokesperson for the company.

MAIN STREET IN BAINTON CLOSED AFTER ROAD TRAFFIC COLLISION
Emergency services are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on Main Street in Bainton.
The road is partially blocked and traffic is queuing following the incident on the A614 near the junction for B1248 Station Road.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area until further notice.

FORMER MP AND STRICTLY STAR ANN WIDDECOMBE HAS DIED AT THE AGE OF 78
Some sad news this morning - The former MP and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ann Widdecombe has died at the age of 78.
Widdecombe was a Conservative minister before becoming a member of Reform UK.
She was the MP for Maidstone for 23 years.
However, she was perhaps more famous for her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing when she patterned professional dancer Anton du Beke.
Widdecombe would go on to star as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Bridlington Spa in 2016, stepping into the role at the last minute for actress Lorraine Chase and became a familiar face around the town over the Christmas period.
She was also runner up in the 2018 version of Celebrity Big Brother.
