šŸ‘ Wool in Unlikely Places

šŸŽ¾ Did you know tennis balls contain wool?

The iconic yellow felt covering a tennis ball is made from a blend of wool and nylon. Wool is chosen for its durability, resilience and performance, helping deliver the consistent speed, bounce and flight that players rely on.

Around 300 million tennis balls are produced every year, each using wool as part of their outer felt.

So, the next time you watch a rally at Wimbledon, remember there’s wool in every shot.

If only there was a little more wool in some of the players’ outfits... after all, wool is one of nature’s greatest performance fibres. šŸ‘šŸŽ¾

Happy Sunday everyone 🄰

After nearly 5 years or trading at the Yorkshire Hive, I can confirm that the shop will be closing next month.

Do not panic yarn addicts, this is not the end of the Wool Den, just the closing of this particular chapter. Opening an independent business flying solo has been a very steep learning curve especially in the current financial climate. As you are probably aware most people and businesses at the moment times are very tough and because of this it’s important to be able to adjust and adapted in order to move forward. The yarn industry, retail and the way we shop has changed vastly in the in the last decade but I do firmly believe that yarn purchasing is a personal, tactile experience that should be enjoyed and savoured and is the ultimate in slow fashion.

This is why the closure is not a decision I have taken lightly and for those who know me well you know I’ve been looking for solutions for quite some time. The ethos of the Wool Den has always been to be an accessible bricks and mortar shop where people can visit to see, experience and squish yarn in person with the emphasis on natural yarns with their sustainable qualities and ensuring all fibres are ethically sourced. If I am to relocate, I want to make sure that it’s absolutely the right location that ticks all the boxes for me personally and for the Wool Den customers
We do have a website which is very much a working in progress but getting there slowly and evolving every day. This was not set up in anyway to replace a physical shop but it is important to be there for customer who can’t physically make it to a shop, to show you what we offer, to book workshops, offer click and collect services and to be another avenue to contact me especially in the time period when I relocate.

With all this in mind, the exciting part for you guys is there are lots of discounts to be had in the shop over the 6 weeks or so. If you need to top up the stash now is the time to do it!

We are open every day for at least the next 6 weeks Mon-Fri 10am–4pm and 10-5pm at weekends. Parking is free for 2 hours in short stay car parks or all day in the main Wildlife Park Car Park. I will endeavour to pop stock and discounts on socials when I can. Synthetic yarns have massive discounts and are available instore only. The website has a sale section with some of the natural fibres discounted so you can shop those instore, online and click and collect. Please note the Drops yarn is not currently physically in the shop. If you wish to purchase Drops, order this online and select pick up in store at the checkout. If this is before 4pm it will be available for collection the following day.

We also have a Knit Club and a Crochet Clinic available to book in July so if you want to learn or develop your skills get yourself booked on while there are place available!

I will try my best to keep you updated with any important news. The best way to make sure you are kept completely up to date is by signing up to the newsletter at the bottom of the home page of the website. If you can invite your friend to like/share my socials, leave a review let people know about the sale that would be fabulous.

Most of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you that have shopped, supported, attended workshops at the Wool Den, (and got as giddy about yarn as I am, you know who you are), it really does mean the world.
