“The study found that those who spoke two languages had brains that appeared around six years younger than those who spoke only one language.”

When in Rome will be back in September, helping all of our students to keep young 😉

🪎🇮🇹What a wonderful day we had chasing puzzles and clues during the first Italian treasure hunt on the walls of Derry.

An hour and a half of pure fun shared with enthusiastic, passionate and highly competitive players.

It was a photo-finish, with all the teams reaching the tenth checkpoint just a few minutes apart, but in the end, it was ‘le Perle Esotiche’ team who snatched the treasure, being the first to enter Salumeria Mariuccia and utter the secret phrase!

Well done to the female detectives Angela & Carmel, you have a keen eye for the hidden details around our city. You were brilliant! 🕵🏽‍♀️🇮🇹

Thank you to all the teams who took part, thank you to little Noa (the youngest treasure hunter on the walls of Derry) for joining in with Mum and Dad, thanks to our students that came from Newry and Portrush, thanks Salumeria Mariuccia | Authentic Italian Deli for generously offering the treasure (a tray of delicious cannoli and coffee vouchers for the winners), and thanks to whoever swept the clouds away and brought out the sun to see this unforgettable treasure hunt through to the end.

It took us a couple of days to recover from Friday’s Sardinian dinner.
It was a great night spent with special people and for me it was a really moving experience.

I am always so proud to be able to share the flavours of my homeland and to tell you a little about my Sardinia, the island of centenarians.

Thank you to all the participants and to for hosting us.

When we began this journey 10 years ago, the aim was obviously to teach the Italian language.
What we’ve discovered is that, little by little, a small community has formed of people passionate not only about the language but also about Italian culture, history and, of course, food.

On Friday we celebrated 10 years of When in Rome and of this wonderful community.
It was a great way to mark this birthday, enjoying Sardinian specialities and toasting with some fine mirto.

It’s not over yet, and When in Rome will be organising other celebrations in the coming months.
Stay tuned.

In bonora! ( Goodbye in Sardinian)✨🙏🏽

The 25th of April: A Day of Freedom and Flowers
In Italy!
The 25th of April (il Venticinque Aprile) is much more than a date on the calendar; it is the heartbeat of the modern Republic.
Known as Liberation Day (La Festa della Liberazione), it marks the spring of 1945 when the country rose up to end the N**i occupation and the Fascist regime.
It is a day that smells of wild poppies, grilled meats, and the historical weight of freedom.

“Il fascismo non è un opinione ma è un crimine!”
Giacomo Matteotti
