Three JB Engineering apprentices have impressed their college tutors after designing and manufacturing a functional portable BBQ grill as part of a college project unit.

Their project brief challenged them to create something outside their usual work-based tasks, while still applying real engineering processes. From CAD design and laser cutting to press braking and final assembly, the apprentices worked as a team to take the project from concept to finished prototype.

The project received strong feedback for its design quality, build standard, and teamwork, while helping the apprentices further develop their technical and communication skills—building confidence for more complex engineering challenges ahead.

A great example of hands-on learning meeting real-world fabrication.
