RCBO Trip Time Tests !

Carrying out the Trip times on X1 and X5. Although X1 is all that is required now i still like to do a full range of testing just to check the RCBOs are fully functional.

This is a Sub Board for a 1bedroom flat supplied in SWA cable and fitted with an RCBO consumer unit with built in surge protection by

Whilst carried out other works at the property we noticed the recent garden electrics the customers had done was completly wrong, so weve came back and sorted it.

Firstly the garden feed was wired directly out of a 100amp main fuse with a 6mm SWA cable also glanded incorrectly with single cores exposed and the outer sheath not earth. This meant the supply had no over current protection other than the DNOs main fuse and also no fault protection. So we removed this and installed a 40amp double pole RCBO device to supply the install and also correctly glanded the SWA

This then went to an outdoor enclosure where the SWAs once again were not earthed correctly and an incorrectly fitted RCD was installed. So we removed the incorrect RCD and replaced it with a main switch as we installed an rcbo at the origin to protect the circuit. We also tidied up the SWA's

From the enclosure this then fed a 32amp rotary isolator which was cracked and broken, also connect incorrectly as the isolator also switched the earth. And once again the SWAs were not glanded correctly or earthed. So we installed a new 32amp rotary isolator, connected it correctly and terminated the 2 SWA cables correctly earthing the outer sheathing.

Finally from the rotary isolater there was a H07 flex cable running across the garden slabs etc which not only was a trip hazard but also had been damaged in several places exposing the inner cores and in one place the copper wire. We removed the H07 cable and replaced it with SWA, Securing the run of the new cable around the boundry of the garden and neatly into the hot tub so it was no longer a trip hazard or unsafe.

For an expensive job on a very nice property never have i came across so many mistakes on just one circuit. Unfortunately the previous sparky had immigrated to Australia and hadnt provided a test cert only an invoice so the customers were stuck with having to foot the cost of the rectifications.
