We are all familiar with popular Health promotion messages such as ‘Eat more fruit & vegetables’, ‘drink more water’, ‘exercise for 30 minutes a day’. These messages tend to focus on our physical health with a view to preventing common physical health challenges such as heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity.

What is less common are health promotion messages designed to address our mental health. These might include ‘know your values’ ‘read positive material for 30 minutes a day’, ‘write down your goals each year’ and other strategies for boosting mental resilience.

The truth is that our physical and mental health are totally linked. People who suffer from persistent physical health challenges are at greater risk of suffering from mental health challenges and those with persistent mental health challenges are at greater risk of coming down with a physical health challenge.
