On D-Day, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who fought to liberate Western Europe on 6 June 1944.
Many returned home carrying physical and mental scars that lasted long after the war ended. Today’s Armed Forces community can still face similar battles after service.
At Help for Heroes, we stand beside veterans and their families with life-changing support for as long as it takes.
Together, we can make sure no veteran suffers in silence. 💙

🗞️ Little catch up of environmental news for Cardiff & South Wales… 🌳
Cardiff’s “Coed Caerdydd” urban forest project is still planting more trees across the city — including parks, schools, streets and community spaces 🌱
This year alone they’ve estimated 37,000 new trees planted, helping boost biodiversity, improve air quality and support Cardiff’s climate goals. It’s becoming one of the UK’s biggest urban tree success stories.
There are FREE tree and orchard schemes currently available for schools, community groups and local projects across South Wales:
✅ Free tree packs for schools & community groups via Woodland Trust
✅ Free fruit trees and orchard support available across Cardiff, Vale, RCT, Bridgend & Merthyr
✅ Cardiff residents can also apply for free garden trees through the Coed Caerdydd project
Recent local highlights include:
🌳 Sycamore Gap “Trees of Hope” saplings planted in Cardiff and South Wales
🌳 More community orchards and edible hedgerows being created
🌳 Volunteer planting sessions continuing across the region
If your school, community group, charity or local project wants to get involved in greening South Wales, now’s a great time to apply.

With the current heatwave across Cardiff and South Wales, it’s worth keeping an eye on the trees in your garden.
Long periods of hot weather can put trees under real stress, especially older or weaker trees that may already have hidden damage from winter storms or strong winds earlier in the year.
𝐀 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 …
☀️ Leaves browning or falling early
☀️Cracks appearing in branches or trunks
☀️Dry soil pulling away from roots
☀️ Deadwood becoming brittle in the heat
☀️Heavy limbs overhanging gardens, roads, or property
Hot weather can make weak branches more likely to fail without much warning, particularly in large mature trees.
Trees do an amazing job during summer by giving shade, cooling gardens, and supporting wildlife, but they still need occasional care and maintenance to stay healthy and safe.
Here at TreeRex we spend our days working with trees across Cardiff & The Vale, and this kind of weather is often when hidden issues start to show themselves.
Enjoy the sunshine, stay cool, and don’t forget to check in on the trees & hydrate them as well as yourselves 😎🚿
