Regardless of the speed limit of a road, if you encounter a horse and rider or a horse and carriage, please slow your vehicle down to a maximum of 10mph.

Only pass when safe to do so, allowing at least a 2m (6ft) gap.

Even experienced riders are grateful for drivers’ patience and courtesy. Horses can spook easily and the consequences of irresponsible driver behaviour can be devastating.
