RELEASE: 31/05

Hugo was admitted to CHR on 15/05, 850g, after concerns were raised about breathing issues.

Following assessment, Hugo was found to be dehydrated, had mild ringworm, ticks, and tested positive for Crenosoma (lungworm). He was started on treatment immediately, including medication for the parasites and a course of antibiotics.

Hugo responded brilliantly to treatment, enjoyed plenty of food and rest, and steadily regained his strength. Hugo was released, back to the finder, weighing 998g.

Thank you to the member of the public who cared enough to seek help when they noticed something wasn’t right. Because of that quick action, Hugo has been given a second chance.

Good luck, Hugo! We hope you enjoy being back in the wild where you belong. 🦔🌿

RELEASE: 30/5

Christopher was admitted on 30/04, weighing 291g. Christopher, a juvenile (teenager) was found out in the daytime from the Fairwater area in Cardiff.
He was dehydrated and emaciated. A few ticks were removed and we found high burdens of Capillaria (roundworm) and Crenosoma (lungworm) but after fluid therapy, pain relief and antibiotics, he's now 615g.

The biggest reason hedgehogs are admitted is dehydration (lack of water) then lack of food (emaciation). If you can do only one thing to help, put out clean water for the wildlife in your area. If you’re able to offer food too then meaty cat, kitten or puppy food is perfect (not in gravy or with added milk).

Christopher has been released back to the garden where he was found where he will be support fed.
Good luck Christopher!
