A profile of Specific Learning Differences means working memory challenges.
Are these patterns you recognise in study?
Many neurodivergent women reach adulthood having built an entire toolkit of strategies to get through education and work without anyone recognising the learning difference underneath.
In education and employment, capability is visible. The effort behind it often remains unseen. Many women rely on strategies such as rewriting notes, memorising information, extensive preparation, and closely monitoring communication.
These approaches support progress for years. They also require significant effort.
Changes in environment often make that effort more visible. Transitions such as sixth form, university, professional training, or early career roles increase demands on organisation, processing, and working memory.
For many women, recognition arrives at this point. Earlier experiences in education and employment begin to make sense through a different lens.
Professionals working across education and employment hold an important role in recognising these patterns and understanding the level of effort that can sit behind apparent competence.
International Women’s Day offers a moment to recognise experiences that often remain unseen.
Earlier recognition has the potential to change educational and workplace experiences.
