Autobahn 2025 Christmas opening times.

Friday 19th December 2025 will be our last day and we will then reopen on Monday January 5th 2026, we won’t be taking or retrieving messages during this time.

January 2026 is already filling up fast and we are well into the 3rd week of the month for appointments.

We would like to take this time to say a huge thank you to everyone that has supported us throughout this year.

Autobahn

Nice to have a Mk1 GTi back in the workshop for some repair work. Full refurb on the rear brakes, shoes ,cylinders, drums and bearings , some hard lines, full set of flexi hoses and a tune up, lovely!

In recently at Autobahn was this lovely 1983 Golf GTI which had been suffering from a poor cold start and generally poor running masked by a high idle speed.

For this car we rebuilt the warm up regulator, repaired some wiring, cleaned and reset the aux air valve and replaced some split vac hoses before reseting the fuelling ,idle and timing.

Thoroughly enjoyable job with a great result and now back with the owner ready to enjoy.

This photo was taken from a 2016 2.0TDI that had covered just short of 60,000 miles from new, the debris at the bottom of the cover is the Cambelt that had broken away and delaminated, the belt now considerably thinner was under tensioned and pretty close to a very costly disaster.

VW have recently advised customers with this engine (2.0 TDI) that the belt interval is now 120-140,000 miles and we couldn't disagree more strongly.

We still advise 6 years or 60,000 miles as the max interval for all timing belts and water pumps (The electric pump on this particular vehicle was already leaking with a seized sleeve on the impeller).

If you do decide to run the risk of extending your intervals to beyond this and you do have a failure, please pop down to your local VW dealer with your life savings as we won't be getting involved 👍
