TOMORROW at Lancashire County Council Preston...

An important meeting at County Hall to discuss and decide on Cuadrilla's application to keep dragging its heels and leaving the mess till some point in the far distant future as it launches yet another appeal for an extension (what another one?!!).

Local residents and campaigners will be meeting outside from around 9:30am before going in to hear from Councillors and the public (including Frack Free Lancashire's Nick Danby).

[Cuadrilla, failed to return the site to farmland by June 2025 under the terms of a previous planning permission.. and now seeking a further extension until 30 June 2027.

But planning officers said in a report:

“The proposed extension of time for the retention of the site in its current form would result in unnecessary and unacceptable harm to the rural character of the area.

“The proposed variation would conflict with the original intention and purpose of the condition, which was imposed to ensure the lifetime of the development was strictly controlled and that the land would be restored to its former condition within the approved timescale.

“The proposed amendment would not secure the restoration of the site at the earliest opportunity”.

The planners said the extension would breach national and local planning policies.]

Please do attend if you can... it has always been the power of the local people that has held this dangerous/damaging industry at bay.

And another... this too has long been
Green Party of England and Wales policy... members/representatives of the Greens, certainly never 'kept schtum' (see link to Novara Media https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1346790073485801 ).

Like many Green policies, it just needed to be heard.

I've been in a discussion that evolved around 'personality politics', media hype and who to trust. The new 'Leader' of Green Party of England and Wales was an issue raised. The reason I popped ' ' around the word leader is because GPEW has a different structure to other Political Parties. Originally, 'Principle Speaker' was the title for this role ie: 'leaders' are spokespeople for policies created by members and voted in at conference.

Member-led:
Zack is no more 'in charge' than Sian, Adrian, Caroline etc. - he is reflecting and echoing the work of thousands of members and decades of their hard work.

Trusting personalities and individuals is always a hard ask - I base my membership on the party's founding philosophical Basis and stay because I know the incredible hard work for nature, environment and society being done by members throughout England & Wales.

>>The principal speakers performed the public and media roles undertaken by the leaders of more conventional political parties. Green parties often consider joint leadership of this kind to embody the widely held Green beliefs in consensus decision making and gender balance. It also symbolises their belief in the need for a society in which people are empowered and involved in making the decisions which affect them. In the party's Philosophical Basis, it states that the Green Party "reject[s] the hierarchical structure of leaders and followers, and, instead advocate[s] participatory politics" and it is "for this reason" that the Green Party has eschewed an individual leader.
