I’m being all reflective today...

This day 4 years ago, I started my first job as a dentist. And to be honest, I expected to be drilling and filling for the rest of my career.

I liked dentistry, but I didn’t LOVE it and it didn’t take long before I developed a sense of uneasiness. Sometimes was missing and I wasn’t prepared to settle. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fast forward 4 years and I now find myself in a completely different field, in a job that has evolved into something that I never could have expected.

For me, it’s always been about people: The personalities, the stories, the individual journeys. The opportunity to contribute in some small way to someone’s overall quality of life is what I craved when I started out on a career in healthcare. And I’m so grateful that the context of my job now still gives me the opportunity to do this.

I’m a big believer in the idea that nothing is ever wasted. I learned so much in dentistry that I continue to draw on. I’m still causing pain (or preventing pain - depends what way you look at it 🤷🏼‍♀️) and still wearing a mask 😷 but I think it’s great to embrace the plot twists along life’s way ✌🏻
