Apologies for the ‘radio silence’ regarding Run Belfast 2018.

You may not have heard of The Roads (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act (Northern Ireland) 2010 but you have probably seen recent media coverage regarding its impact, particularly with reference to the recent Belfast City Marathon. While this legislation was drafted in 2010 it has only recently been implemented. Further guidance regarding the law is available at - http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/…/road-clo…/road-closures.aspx

Over the last few months there has been much speculation regarding all events taking place on public roads across Northern Ireland. The result is that we are only now in a position to open entries for our event on 22nd July. Our plans have been in place for some time and our team of volunteers is ready to roll but we could not proceed until we got clarity around costs from a number of stakeholders. Sufficient clarity has now been obtained and entries will open on Friday 18th May.

Traffic management will be handled as normal by our contractors, Grahams, with support from the PSNI.

Unfortunately we are still awaiting clarification from Belfast City Council regarding the cost of our road closure application. It seems that as we’re neither a commercial enterprise nor a charity, we do not fit their pricing brackets. However, we are determined to keep the event accessible for as many people as possible and entries will be available for £17.50. This includes a technical T-shirt and commemorative medal.

We look forward to another excellent day of sport in the heart of Belfast and to providing a warm welcome to participants and supporters, both old and new.
