The Bentley “Flying B” is a high calibre product and system that represents the best of WCMs engineering and manufacturing competences, particularly in delivering complex assemblies and mechatronics.
Cast out of 316 stainless steel, the new “Flying B” is hand-polished and crafted using a process normally reserved for turbine engines. Once the casting is received, WCM conduct the full assembly of the system including the integration of a wiring loom to activate LED lighting, the application and curing of adhesive via precision robotic technology to affix the iconic acrylic wings to the casting as well as the integration of the “Flying B” casting into the main assembly housing that sits below the car bonnet line. The entire assembly process utilises pick to light systems and digitised workflow processes, all contributing to the Bentley requirements for process control and traceability.
Upon completion of the assembly, WCM utilise purpose-built test cells to conduct safety testing upon the overall mechanical performance of the system including knock chamber testing, ensuring the high quality standards of Bentley are surpassed.
