Last sunday at the Forum of the de l'Amérique Latine, Paris.

What a day of dialogue, encounter, and shared purpose.
We had the honor of presenting the work of Casa Común in Ecuador, projects that bring together architecture, education, and community development in rural areas, through participatory building processes, local materials, and a deep commitment to lasting social impact.
But beyond our own work, what made this day truly memorable was the space itself, a space made possible by the de l'Amérique Latine. Thank you for gathering such a rich and diverse constellation of organizations, associations, and initiatives, and for creating the conditions for real exchange. Forums like this one don't just connect people, they build the foundations for future collaborations.
We are also deeply grateful to the of Ecuador in France for sharing the event with their network and opening the door for us to participate and present our work to a wider audience. Their support is a genuine act of belief in the value of Ecuadorian initiatives abroad and it makes a difference.
To everyone who stopped by our stand, asked questions, and shared their own projects: thank you. These conversations are where ideas begin to travel.
Together, we are building bridges between France and Ecuador, between communities, between cultures.

Tomorrow, Casa Común will be at the Forum de la Maison de l'Amérique Latine in Paris.

A full day of encounters between associations and organizations working at the France–Latin America and Caribbean crossroads. We'll be there to present our work in Ecuador — participatory construction, earth-based building, community education and cultural mediation in rural territories.

If you are an association, collective or organization working in similar contexts — in Ecuador, in Latin America, or here in France — come find us.

Sunday 31 May · 10h–18h
Maison de l'Amérique Latine, Paris
Free entry

In 2025, we traveled to Saraguro with one question: what does it mean to build truly with a community — not for it?
Tinkuy is the answer we built together.
Two new classrooms for the CECIB Inti Raymi, a Kichwa intercultural bilingual school in Chukidel Ayllullacta. A process of participatory construction and shared knowledge — between France and Ecuador, between architects, students, craftspeople and community members.

↓ Next season: Learning from territories

Tinkuy.
In Kichwa: encounter. Rencontre. Encuentro.
The name was not chosen by accident. This project was built on the conviction that architecture — when it is honest — is always an encounter: between knowledge, between hands, between worlds that rarely meet.
Chukidel Ayllullacta, Saraguro, Ecuador.

In 2024, two new classrooms were built alongside the community of Chukidel Ayllullacta, SD Arquitectura, Une École pour Guayas, and Hope & Smile.
For 130 children.
Not as a number. As 130 specific children, in a specific place, with a specific history.
That specificity is what makes this architecture.

Built with local craftsmanship and local materials — and the collective effort of students, professionals and community members.
This is what it looks like when construction is not outsourced.

Before - After
Two classrooms added to a school that needed them. But the most important transformation is not visible in these images — it's in the process that happened between the two.
The months of dialogue, the decisions made collectively, the knowledge exchanged, the trust built.
Architecture is also what you can't photograph!

Local resources. Ancestral knowledge. Living territories.
The structure, the section, the logic of a space rooted in what the territory already knows.
Drawing as a tool of understanding.

Chukidel Ayllullacta sits at altitude, surrounded by páramo, forests and memory.
Before any project, there is a place. Before any material decision, there is a territory that speaks — through its soils, its climate, its communities, its silences.
This is where Tinkuy was built.
Las Lagunas, Saraguro, Ecuador.
