En 1950, Sayed Haider Raza quitte Bombay pour Paris. À Bombay, attentif aux langages cubistes et expressionnistes, il recherchait une traduction formelle de l'intensité de son époque, marquée par le déchaînement de violences communautaires consécutives de la Partition.

Durant ses premières années à Paris, il convoque l'espace de la miniature indienne lorsqu'il peint le calme inquiet de villages médiévaux dans le Sud de la France.

Sayed Haider Raza left Bombay for Paris in 1950. In Bombay, attentive to Cubist and Expressionist idioms, he sought a formal translation of the intensity of the period, marked by the outbursts of community violence in the aftermath of Partition.

During his early years in Paris, he invoked the space of Indian miniature paintings when depicting the uneasy calm of medieval villages in the South of France.
