🤝 Building community-led governance in displacement sites across southern Syria

Following the escalation of conflict in As Sweida in July 2025, around 150,000 people were displaced across southern Syria, seeking safety in informal and managed displacement sites.

🛠️ In response Acted has been supporting displaced communities in Dar’a governorate to:

🏛️ Establish and strengthen community-led governance structures
🤝 Promote inclusive, representative, and safe decision-making
📢 Enable residents to identify their priorities and raise concerns
🧩 Encourage active participation in the management of their sites

Last week, during a visit from EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid, a key partner supporting these efforts, community representatives shared their feedback and experiences with these governance systems, as well as other support mechanisms implemented in response to the crisis.

🤝 These exchanges play a critical role in ensuring that site coordination and management efforts are shaped by the priorities of those most affected, keeping local voices at the heart of the humanitarian response in Syria .

🌍 Scaling up cash and protection support in Blue Nile, Sudan

After three years of conflict, Sudan continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, with over 30 million people in need of assistance.

In Blue Nile, the ongoing conflict has severely worsened living conditions, leaving many without access to basic needs and facing growing protection risks. Between April and May 2026 alone, 49,512 people arrived in the area, nearly half of them children. Most have taken shelter in precarious conditions, with 78% living in informal settlements.

🛠️ Since early April, Acted has launched a multisectoral response to deliver lifesaving support, built on two key pillars:

💸 Multipurpose cash assistance: enabling households to meet urgent needs in a safe, dignified, and flexible way

🛡️ Protection: strengthening access to services, improving wellbeing, and reinforcing community-based protection mechanisms

📊 First results on the ground

📍 First field mission conducted in Tadamon locality
📍 500 households already registered for cash assistance
📍 First community-based protection network established

➡️What is planned?

• 1,500 households will receive multipurpose cash assistance to improve their food consumption score
• 3 community-based protection networks established and trained to protectio
• 170 individuals supported through individual protection assistance

LEBANON: THE CRISIS CONTINUES TO ESCALATE

Since March 2026, war have forced over one million people to flee, with thousands killed and injured. Despite the ceasefire announced in April, violence and instability persist, especially in southern Lebanon, driving continued displacement and growing needs.

🔴 On the ground, the situation remains critical:

- 632 collective sites hosting over 129,000 displaced people
- Overcrowded shelters and limited access to basic services
- Families facing repeated displacement and increasing vulnerability

✅ Acted teams are mobilised across the country through :

✔️ Safe water and sanitation support for 53,000+ people
✔️ Shelter upgrades in collective sites for 11,400+ people
✔️ Distribution of essential relief items and hygiene kits for 7,500 people
✔️ Supporting 20,500 people through community-led social stability initiatives
✔️ Cash-for-work opportunities for nearly 1,900 people

👉 But needs are growing rapidly
Water systems are under pressure, shelters are saturated, and funding gaps threaten access to essential services.
