📖 One of the highlights of the sale is this rare collection of two Venetian incunables, comprising the Liber Sextus (the Sixth Book of the Decretals), promulgated by Pope Boniface VIII in 1298, together with the Clementines and Extravagantes issued by Pope Clement V and his successors, with the gloss of the renowned canonist Giovanni d’Andrea. An outstanding Gothic printing in red and black, set in two columns, with the gloss surrounding the text. The titles, initials, and rubrics, as well as the colophon and printer’s device, are printed in red, while the consanguinity tree is printed in red and black.
⛪ A precious copy in a contemporary binding from the Venetian monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore, bearing contemporary manuscript ownership inscriptions in the colophons of both works.
