On a sacred mound in north Paris, imbued with places of reverence at every turn - the odd, red-bricked Saint-Jean de Montmartre, Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre, of course, the now-cowed Saint-Pierre de Montmartre with its micro-cemetary, the charming Saint-Vincent Cemetery and, évidemment, the monumental Montmartre Cemetery itself...
..you wouldn't expect to find the city's biggest annual booze-up blocking its narrow cobbled streets.

That's what happens every October, though, when the pocket-handkerchief-sized Clos Montmartre vineyard celebrates the uncorking of the previous year's harvest.

Having taken vows of alcoholic celibacy nine years ago, I don't imbibe myself, but plenty do, religiously, I might add - santé!

📜 𝗧ʜᴇ 𝗧ᴇ𝘅ᴛ ✏️

Having successfully made it through British passport control, I'm effectively on British soil here as I walk across the walkway at Gare du Nord onto the Eurostar waiting to whisk me away to the UK.

No further checks are made before I walk out into the English drizzle at Saint Pancras greeted by the iconic cuddling couple statue. We used to arrive at Waterloo before the terminus moved north of the river Thames in 2007. I generally head north, so that suited me fine.

It always struck me as a bit mean to force the French to arrive in London at a blatant reminder of Napoleon's decisive defeat. Now they are simply reminded of some Roman kid (called Pancras) who got his head chopped off in the year 304 aged 14 for converting to Christianity.

Napoleon knew, though, that the poor believe religion, the wise find it false, and the rulers (like him) use it to advance their own agendas. That's why he hastened to re-establish it as soon as he came to power. I thank God every time English trains actually manage to arrive on time! Big hug? 🤗

I know, I know, I've taken a million shots of A&M over the years, but you have to admit, it cries out to be admired and adulated, doesn't it?

This amazing Jules Vernesque metro platform isn't one of my fabulous recurring themes as such, like Lady Eiffel and blurry birds and ladies in red dresses.

I'm afraid most of my shots of it are pretty much the same but always ineluctable eye-candy, up in yer face!

There is one notable feature here; an actual witch is approaching me in the bottom right, with black hair and a pointy hat and everything!

I knew this was a magical place and now I've got irrefutable proof. Cackle!

An intriguing new position has dropped at the RATP (the Paris train company) ideal for ravers, techno music fans and other partygoers.

If you join the team, you'll be the official "Get-Your-Hands-Up-In-The-Air-Guy", and your job will be to pump your hands up and down in front of confused commuters. No, this isn't a community exercise initiative like Japan's rajio taiso daily calisthenics followed by millions. It's much more down-to-earth than that.

On the line 14 metro at Gare de Lyon, they've recently installed new exit escalators in the middle of the platform but folks still automatically head for the old way out which is now sealed off. ⛔️

This guy frantically indicates the two No Exit signs above his head which everyone ignores. They should add some rail-rockin' beats and get a party going! 🙆‍♂️
