The most dangerous Wi-Fi network is rarely the one that looks suspicious.

In the field, more risk comes from a luxury hotel lounge or a conference venue than from a badly designed public hotspot. The network looks legitimate. The device reconnects automatically. Sensitive data starts moving before anyone questions it.

A copied network name. A familiar login page. No visible warning. That is how interception works in real life, and it takes less than one rushed connection between meetings to create real exposure.

85% of people have heard of VPNs. Only 32% actually use one.

Here is what we enforce on every operational trip, without exception:

1. VPN on, always. On hotel Wi-Fi, on airport networks, on 4G and 5G. The cellular network is more secure by default, but it is not immune. VPN is not optional. It is the baseline.

2. Bluetooth off when not in active use. Not on standby. Off. In a hotel lobby, an airport lounge, or a conference room, an active Bluetooth signal is a visible entry point. You have no way of knowing who is scanning for devices within ten meters of you.

3. A personal hotspot on a dedicated travel SIM. When the network cannot be trusted, you stop using it. A separate SIM used exclusively for travel removes the dependency on public infrastructure entirely.

Executive protection today is not only about physical movement. It is also about controlling the digital space that travels with the client.
When on the move, is your VPN always on?

A true protection professional combines operational capability with social intelligence.

Military and special forces backgrounds bring valuable qualities: discipline, resilience and the ability to operate under pressure. In high-risk environments, these skills are often critical.

But executive protection operates in many different contexts.

Protecting a client during a high-profile event, a business meeting or an international trip requires more than tactical experience.

Understanding social dynamics.
Communicating with discretion.
Adapting to professional and international environments.

In places like a fashion event, a corporate summit or a public appearance, the ability to blend in and interact appropriately often matters as much as security expertise.

Executive protection is therefore not defined by a single background.

The best protection professionals combine operational competence with emotional intelligence, discretion and the ability to adapt to the environment.

Because in protection work, context defines the skillset.

Structured Communication in Protective Operations

Mostly, private protection does not operate with military-grade encryption or government infrastructure, it operates with structured protocols, disciplined teams, and the right information architecture.
In the field, we operate with clearly defined communication layers.

· A tactical channel for the on-ground team, movements, positioning, immediate coordination. Clear. Direct. No delay.
· A management channel between the team lead and headquarters, situation reports, escalation, strategic updates. No operational noise. Only decision-level information.
· A client or partner channel, key updates at the right moment. Reassurance without unnecessary exposure.

Three layers. Three purposes. Zero confusion.

Operational exposure often occurs outside official groups, through informal conversations, unnecessary photo sharing, casual updates to external contacts, or well-intentioned reassurances sent through uncontrolled platforms.

A mission can remain technically encrypted and still become vulnerable through uncontrolled human communication. In private protection, communication control means defining not only which channels are used, but also what is allowed to be said, shared, or forwarded, and to whom.

Information discipline is not about secrecy. It is about protecting operational integrity.
At IPS BODYGUARD, communication protocols do not stop at the application level. They define structure. They define behavior. They protect the mission.
