Inspired by nature, and the unseen, themes of exit and entry; change, and transmutation are dominantly present in her work. Whether painting flowers or more abstract pieces, her paintings are a direct response to her emotional life as she explores what it means to be a woman today. Often, her paintings are viewed as joyful —her arrangements are schematic, often playful, exploratory, and urgent. Wh
ile optimism is present, she invites the viewer to move into a space of critical speculation and personal reflection. Her recent flower-themed work is motivated by the intentional return to joy and free expression. Using a variety of media such as acrylics, gouache, watercolour, pencils, pastels, and spray paint, she creates one of a kind pieces. Generally, her paintings express her relationship with flowers and largely nature as a whole. She paints them as a reminder that we ourselves are nature; to stay wild, free, open, ever changing, and imperfect - in other words, beautiful! Even more to the point, her flowers interrogate the transience of being and the hospitality of presence. Whether exploring laws of impermanence or values such as love or beauty, or her work maintains a vision of community, love, and connection to the earth and one another. Juxtaposing hard and geometric shapes with soft marks and bold colors, she exposes herself as vulnerable and wild, as unexpected, and unpredictable. In her own words, “My art changes as I change. I change, I change, I change with the seasons.”
