Gold is an excellent storyteller, but it also knows how to keep a secret.

A client visited our Paris boutique recently with a magnificent 21kt gold collier africain. On the scale, it was a heavy 49 grams, glowing with vibrant zircon stones in every color. At first glance, it looked like a solid golden masterpiece.

But in the world of Achat D’Or, we learn to look past the first impression. As we carefully removed the stones and opened the piece, we found a surprising reality. To give the necklace its complex shape and strength, the artisan had built a hidden metal frame inside. The actual gold weight was 30 grams.

It turns out, even the most beautiful jewellery needs a little "backbone" to support its sparkle.

Is this a disappointment? Not at all. It was actually a fascinating look at old-world engineering. We explained the hidden structure to the client with complete transparency. For us, luxury service is not just about the final number on the scale; it is about the honesty of the process.
