On March 13, 1895, a fire broke out at Tesla's laboratory at 33-35 S. Fifth Avenue in Greenwich Village, photographed here. The fire destroyed his equipment, models, notes, and much of his research data - half his life's work. He gave himself electric shock therapy from one of his coils to recover!

On this day 138 years ago Nikola Tesla presented a paper to the American Institute of Electrical Engineers at Columbia College in New York, describing his alternation current induction motor. It would change the world.
