IAB Europe's TCF and the Belgian APD: Understanding the Legal Dispute 🤔

On February 2, 2022, the Belgian Data Protection Authority (DPA), known as the APD ("Autorité de Protection des Données"), decided against the European Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB Europe) regarding its Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF). The DPA imposed a fine of EUR 250K and ordered IAB Europe to develop an action plan within the next two months.

IAB Europe responded to the decision by releasing TCF v2.2 on May 16, 2023, with an implementation deadline for participants on November 20, 2023 (originally scheduled for July 11, 2023, but delayed).
